Science Cafe: The Science of Fear

Event Date:
Wednesday, October 12, 2011 - 6:30pm

From arachnophobia to xenophobia and everything in between, one thing is certain: most of us are scared of something!

Join the "Science Buzz" at the Koshland Science Museum for an animated discussion and happy hour about the science of fear with psychology experts Daniel Pine and Mark Wiederhold.

Why are some of us more prone than others to phobias? How do we learn to dread certain things, and how do these fears change as we age?

Learn the answers to these questions and more by attending this interactive discussion, sponsored by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Koshland Science Museum.

Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the door. Food, wine, and beer are provided in the admission fee.

To purchase advance tickets, please call the museum at 202-334-1201, or send a message to ksm@nas.edu. Participants must be 21 or older to consume beer or wine. Proper ID, such as a driver's license or state-issued ID card, is required to consume alcohol, and must be shown to museum staff upon entrance to the program.
